About MAHEC Center for Psychiatry & Mental Wellness
MAHEC Center for Psychiatry & Mental Wellness is a medical specialist in Asheville, North Carolina. It is listed at 125 Hendersonville Rd, Asheville, NC 28803, which places it among the local businesses of Asheville that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under community health center, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.
In Asheville, urgent care centers are busiest on weekends and evenings when doctors' offices are closed, and most post their wait times online. Across North Carolina, primary care practices often have a waitlist for new patients, so establishing care before you need it saves time. For a dental emergency outside office hours, an urgent care center can prescribe antibiotics and pain relief but cannot fix the tooth; a hospital emergency room can treat swelling that affects breathing or swallowing. Check the listing for insurance, hours and whether telehealth visits are offered.
The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. The most common schedule is 8 amβ5 pm. It is closed on Saturday, Sunday. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is mahec.net, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Asheville is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Asheville is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across North Carolina's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

In a severe panic attack after having taken my prescribed Valium, the day after getting out of hospital for cardiac ablation so I call and get a nurse who informs me that if I'm not suicidal she can't even make a report or call the doctor on call. Where does one call for help then? I'm a patient at mahec psychiatry.

Iβm afraid I cannot review their actual mental health services - by the time we figured out how to get from the front door of the building (on the first floor) to their offices (in the basement), they said weβd missed the appointment. There was zero signage - not even at the elevators! Even asking people on the first floor didnβt help! If their therapists are as bad at communicating as the administration, Iβd say donβt waste your time! For example: their many text reminders of your appointment do not include their address or phone number! The receptionist also confirmed that they do not monitor or respond to incoming email or text messages. (Way to communicate with your patientsβ¦ that IS the definition of communication, right? One way only?) The campus and facilities are beautiful - but we didnβt make an appointment to see a beautiful building or great landscaping. We chose to abandon attempting to get services here - weβll find a different provider.

Iβm deeply grateful for the MAHEC Psychiatry team β especially Caitlin Tugman. She approached my care with professionalism, patience, and genuine attention. By listening closely and working collaboratively to problem-solve, she helped create a plan that has had a truly life-changing impact. Iβm thankful for both her expertise and her care.

I have had great luck with finding matches with providers. I have a provider who has been working with me on medication management. I have had several psychiatric providers over the years but I must say that Caitlyn Tugman has been the best for me. I know everyone is different but sometimes you need to switch to find someone who is best for you.

I am writing this review to advocate for the poorly managed care my child and my partner received here as well as myself. My child is 6 with autism and ADHD and its a nightmare to get his prescription filled every month. The dr or whoever is supposed to manage things with the pharmacy takes forever to communicate with the pharmacist when they need a particular coad for the regulated meds they prescribed my child. This causes my son to go days without his medicine and he will have withdrawals and behaviors directly related to him not having the medicine he NEEDS! He has gotten hurt at school and home when he hasnt had his medicine. I HAVE BEEN EXPRESSING THIS ISSUE FOR MONTHS! This is a child with special needs and I am starting to get very frustrated. I have to call the front desk every time he needs one of the regulated meds to get them to send multiple reminders to check their computer and respond to the pharmacy. If this is such a common issue the drs need to do better! You arnt helping by shoving meds at my child only for him to have to go days without it because of negligence. Id also like to add my Partner recently was hospitalized in crisis due to financial stress and autist

I've been a patient here for over a year now, and this place has been great, and has taken my care more seriously than most health providers I have been to. I see both a psychiatrist for my medications and also my therapist is here, and both have been excellent. They might be busy sometimes, but all the staff from the bottom up are all very helpful.

I have had positive experiences with this facility. They have quality individuals for both Psychiatry and Psychology. They offer a play room for young children to unwind in before appointments. The facility is clean and proper precautions are enforced to keep unfriendly germs at bay. The staff is receptive and prompt in their responses back regarding questions. Often we forget that our doctors and medical professionals are not 100% dedicated to our needs alone, but also several other individuals as well as living a life just as full and complicated as our own. I will remain using Mahec until life has other plans for my location.
